Here’s a clip of the first single off Born and Raised, called “Shadow Days.” I’m excited to share the first bit of sound from the album… Been looking forward to a post like this since October 14, 2010, the first day I started writing this group of songs. Enjoy.

I literally just cried when I saw this. New John Mayer in my life brings me unimaginable joy. John, welcome back. Its as if you never left at all.

Recent photo of a little boy visiting the White House. He wanted to feel Obama’s hair because he wanted to know if the President’s hair felt just like his. Obama obliged. Priceless.

Excuse me while I angry blog

UGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH. My mom made me really really upset today.

We were just watching diary of a mad black woman and a commercial came on for…. well now I don’t even remember what it was for. Some hair care product I think? Well anyway, the commercial started out with this really pretty girl rocking a short TWA. Immediately, my mom goes “Oh her hair was pretty!! What did she do to make her hair look like that?” And I didn’t respond. So she made me rewind the TV and pause it on this woman’s hair. And the questions came: Why does her hair look like that? She has ringlets? Can’t you do that to your hair?

Now to any other person, this would seem like a perfectly normal conversation, but to my natural hair ladies, you guys know what I’m talking about. She wasn’t just complimenting this girl’s natural hair, she was implying that I needed to make my hair look like hers because she has prettier hair than me. Now, I’m not just assuming that’s what she meant. This has been like…. the 17th billion time my mom has made comments like this. Every time we see a girl with natural hair—be it on TV or in real life—she has some comment to make. Just little things like, “Look at HER hair!” “You can do something like that to yours!” “When I go natural my hair is gonna look like that.” It’s SOOOOOOOOOO annoying. She insists that there is something I can do to make my hair look “softer” and I keep trying to tell her that this is what it’s gonna look like. I know I shouldn’t keep getting frustrated because it’s not like my mom has any concept of curl pattern or twists out or any of the things I try to tell her effect what your hair looks like. None of that matters. All that matters is that they have “good hair” and my hair is “nappy”. I really don’t understand this because I TOLD HER back in July when I decided to go natural that I was gonna cut it short and let it grow.

But anyway, I called her out on it today and told her that she really hurts my feelings when she says stuff like that. We’ll see what that does.

Anybody feelin my pain on this one?
